What can you use the app for?

The Scene can be used to organize and plan your social life. There are millions of bars, pubs and clubs all around the world. This makes choosing a good one pretty difficult; however that’s where The Scene comes in. If you visit the website then you will see that it’s basically a review site for a number of different venues in loads of different countries. However it’s much more than just a review site, it also features information about what is happening at the venue on certain days. This makes it easy to find out when a live band is performing, or when happy hour is. It also features comments and photos so that you can get a sense of what the club is like. This makes it much easier to find out where you might like to go for a night out. Signing up makes this site even more interesting as it becomes a social networking site. You can use it to meet new people and even choose where to go with them.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

The Scene employs 8 people and was founded in 2008. It received funding from Seed in 2009 and is becoming more and more popular. However many of the venues do not have a very active community yet. This is especially true when looking at international venues.

What are the differences to other apps?

The Scene is very easy to use; you can use it to find out where you might like to go or a night out by simply visiting the site. You don’t even need to register unless you want to. The site can be seen as a review site, however it also features social interaction, and photos which makes it much easier to find and meet new people that are close to you. It’s a combination of a social networking application and a social venue review site and works very well.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

It’s extremely easy to use The Scene; you don’t even need to register to find out about the venues on offer. You simply need to visit the site and start reading reviews and comments. However if you want to participate or use it as a social networking site then you will need to register. This doesn’t take long to do. Registering will make it possible to leave comments and create your own profile.

How does the registration process work?

Registering is very easy, you need to enter your name, email address and choose a password that’s over 5 characters long. You must be over 18 to sign up and use the site. You do need to enter your date of birth to confirm your age; however this will not be displayed publicly. It’s also possible to import your friends from your email account if you have a gmail, yahoo mail or similar account this is optional you just need to click the small link that says “no thanks, skip this step” at the bottom. You will be sent an email that you need to click a link in to activate your account.

What does it cost to use the application?

Using The Scene is completely free. There don’t seem to be any adverts anywhere on the site; however there is a link for partners who want to advertise. This could mean that the site will have advertising on it pretty soon.

Who would you recommend the application to?

The Scene is a fantastic utility for anyone that is trying to plan their social life. If you fancy trying somewhere different or just want to meet new people then the scene is a great place to do it. You can even research different bars and clubs before you go on holiday so that you can make sure you don’t waste your time in the wrong ones. It is a stable and useful application, however many of the venues (especially international) do not have much information or comments which can be a little frustrating.

  • Read reviews about various venues
  • See photos before you go
  • Meet new people
  • Find bars and clubs close to you
